That darn cold and flu that I have managed to avoid for the last few months finally caught up with me!

But it’s not all bad news, because it gave me a good reason to make myself a deliciously soothing concoction known as a “Hot Toddy”.

I can’t say for sure why or how, but it does seem to bring some much needed relief when you are feeling congested.

Now, there’s no need to wait until you are sick to try this!

It’s also a great hot drink to have on any cool, fall or winter day.

Give it a try, stay warm and stay healthy.

*makes 1 serving

1 tbsp honey
Juice of 1/2 a lemon
1 oz spiced rum
Boiling water
1 cinnamon stick
3 whole cloves
1 star anise
1/2 slice of lemon

To a glass mug add honey, lemon juice and rum.

Fill mug with boiling water, and use cinnamon stick to stir well.

Add cloves, star anise and lemon slice.

Let sit for 5 min, stir and enjoy.

When we were still racing, every Christmas we would have an open barn party; people would bring hot dishes & we would serve hot buttered rum toddies…………mmmmmm. We were a popular barn, as you can imagine.
I like this version too though, as just last night I made lemon & honey for a sore throat. This is Mennonite country & star anise is one of our favourite spices; I always have whole stars on hand so I can literally PROMISE that this is happening here at home tonight. I might even make one for Mr Shoes!
I found you through the Happiness is Homemade bloghop; I hope you’ll take some time to visit the 4Shoes & leave me a msg so that I know you’ve been by!
