How to make Pumpkin Pie Spice

There’s has been a growing trend over the last few years…the very moment you turn your calendar page to September, Fall arrives and so do the pumpkin flavoured goodies!

Lattes and scones, muffins and doughnuts, cookies and pies, oh my! I love it all actually, and have discovered I can make a lot of them with great results at home.

 And why not, it’s definitely doable, recipes abound all over the internet. What you do need is a good, fresh batch of homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice.

What exactly is pumpkin pie spice? What’s in it? Although it can be bought ready-made, grocery stores don’t always carry it (I guess it is a seasonal item). But seriously, it’s so easy to make, don’t waste your time looking for it.  And you probably have everything you need in your spice cabinet already.

The basic ingredients are: Cinnamon, Ginger, Nutmeg, Cloves (you can also add Allspice or Cardamom for a more unique flavour)

The amount of the ingredients can  be tweaked to your taste, without losing the essence of the flavouring we have come to know as Pumpkin Pie Spice. Mix up a batch now. Fall officially arrives in just 4 days, september 22 at 10:29pm to be exact!


3 tbsp ground cinnamon

1 tbsp ground ginger

2 tsps ground nutmeg

1tsp ground cloves

1 tsp ground allspice

-mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl, using a fork or small whisk

-transfer to an small airtight jar to store until needed
