It’s so dark and dreary out there…
it’s an energy sapping, stay in your bed, don’t bother getting up, someone should be serving me breakfast in bed kinda day!
I waited…nothing…had to get up and do it myself! Uugh!
So…I made myself this delicious new smoothie, my version of a recipe found in a recent issue of RICARDO magazine.
A little research led me to discover that Matcha powder is a great addition to a healthy diet, and an excellent substitution for coffee.
It helps to boost energy, memory and concentration, strengthens the immune system, detoxifies the body, and it’s high in antioxidants.
A lot of goodness in a small spoon!
Of course, to get the most out of matcha do try to buy the best quality you can. Right now I am using the “Cerimonial Matcha” from David’s Tea, as it was met with great reviews by matcha masters and was easy to find in my neighbourhood.
This smoothie tastes very fresh and light, with a fair amount of banana flavour and a hint of cocoa.

MATCHA BANANA BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE
*makes one smoothie
2 tbsp hot water
1 tsp matcha green tea powder
1/2 cup or single serve cup vanilla greek yogurt (or plain)
1 banana, cut in chunks and frozen
2/3 cup milk of your choice
1 tsp ground flax
1 tsp pure cacao nibs
Add hot water to a small bowl and whisk in matcha powder until dissolved.
Add remaining ingredients to a blender cup, then pour in matcha mixture and process until smooth and frothy.
Pour into a glass and enjoy.
*cut up and freeze well done bananas so you have them ready for smoothie making! Yes you can use a fresh banana but frozen ones give you a thicker, creamier smoothie!
